Thoughts
This week, I met Tyson Knauff of Haven Publishers Group. Haven provides a range of services for those who would like to publish a book. From editing and proofreading for those who have gotten it 90% of the way done on their own, to full ghostwriting services for those who have a story to tell but aren't sure how.
Tyson came to partner with Haven after his own experience working with their team as a customer. He was one of those customers who came to them knowing he had a story to tell but wasn't sure how to do it. Through their interview process the idea emerged to share business and branding ideas through the use of telling stories about nature. As you know, I love the idea of teaching through storytelling.
As an example, he shared a story with me from his book "Turn Over the Rock: Discovering Opportunity, Finding Grace, and Getting Clients."
‘As a child, I had an adventure of trying to rescue a wild bird who was caught inside a shed. When I stopped trying to grab the bird and instead gently offered it my hand to perch on, the bird gladly accepted my help and was soon free. I apply the same idea to highly successful marketing by creating a brand that acts as a "perch" not a "predator" for their target customers’
I just think that's beautiful. Sales don’t need to be sleazy.
This week I spoke to 3 different business owners who felt a lot like that bird. Trapped inside boxes where they didn't belong. Boxes that were not healthy for them or their business.
They lamented the frustration, disappointment, and even trauma, they've experienced trying to grow their business by following the advice of so-called gurus. The advice didn't work for them and left them feeling defeated.
It's refreshing to hear about businesses like Haven Publishing who are willing to think outside the box and find solutions that are specifically tailored to work for their clients.
There isn't one right way to grow or run a business.
There are as many right ways as there are people running businesses.
This is why I'm not one of those business coaches selling a "program." I've been helping people start, run and grow businesses for over 20 years. I've helped dozens and dozens of businesses. No two needed the exact same solution. Each one was unique and my solutions for them were just as unique.
If you've been disappointed by coaches, consultants, and gurus who just didn't seem to 'get you' and pushed cookie cutter solutions like a broken record, then I extend my hand to you.
