Disillusionment with the American Dream and The Boot Crushing Our Entrepreneurial Necks

Eyes welling with tears.
It’s not something you tend to see in the professional world.
I’ve seen it a few times…this week.
Eyes welling with tears.
The damn is cracking.
People are breaking.
I hate to say it, but it’s about damn time.
The possibility of the American Dream for the vast majority of us was destroyed a very long time ago. Collectively, we just didn’t know it yet.
We’ve been living in a literal dream-state, the American Dream State.

Sleep paralysis is a state of being conscious but unable to move upon waking. It’s often accompanied by terrifying hallucinations of an entity crushing your chest and the feeling of being trapped in your body, unable to move, unable to do anything about your situation.
Eyes welling with tears.
Washing away the cobwebs of dreamland.
People are waking from the American Dream State into a nightmare where nothing is as they expected. They are being crushed by everything and everyone, and they are trapped inside their bodies, unable to move, unable to do anything to fix the situation because every option seems worse than the last. Collectively, we are suffering from sleep paralysis on an existential level.
Eyes welling with tears.
People are breaking.
I hate to say it, but it’s about damn time.
The only way to break free from the grip of this terror…
Is
To
Break.
The bonds that paralyze us, the boots crushing our necks, are intangible. They are thoughts, ideas, systems of belief that are so deeply ingrained into our psyche we are generally not consciously aware of their existence, and they are destroying us.
Nothing tangible we do or create will fix our problems — not personally, not collectively — until we shift our entire foundations.
To move a house, you must break something.
Collectively we are experiencing a disillusionment with the American Dream State.
The bootstrap they keep telling us to pull on to find success, is actually the noose around our necks.
And we keep pulling it tighter.
Sometimes, the only way to make something better is to break it.
Let’s start with the belief systems that are holding us back.

Ophelia's 🌈 Corner: Is Your Inner Squirrel Holding You Back?
Hi, my sparkling dream chasers! It’s Ophelia here! 🖤✨
I’ve been thinking about squirrels a lot lately. (Stick with me—I promise this is going somewhere.) You see, my encounter with Mortimer the Existential Squirrel got me pondering how much we’re all just scampering around, clutching at acorns we’ve buried in places we can’t quite remember.
And you know what? I think it ties into what Cheryl’s been saying about deeply ingrained beliefs and breaking things. Not plates (though, let’s admit it—breaking a plate in a fit of passion can be deeply cathartic). I mean breaking systems, breaking ideas, breaking molds. And yes, breaking your own beliefs, even when they feel as natural as breathing.
When I first set out to create a business, I believed that if I created a product that I believed in, customers will instantly see the value too and come knocking down my door to buy it. - Of course, I didn't know I believed this - I just built a business and assumed the customers would come.
What I found were crickets. Not actual crickets, when I finally found them, they loved my enchanted acorns. No, this was the kind of crickets where you have no customers at all. I didn't even have any followers on social media!
Then I thought I just needed to work harder. I found myself working 12 hours a day, never having time to frolic in the enchanted forest or visit with my friends. I was miserable, and sure, I got a customer here or there, but it wasn't enough to justify all the time I was putting in.
One day, I showed up on Cheryl's doorstep, my eyes filling with tears. I was exhausted and depressed and had no idea what I was doing wrong.
It turned out the squirrel that lives in my brain had been busy burying all kinds of Mystical Mythology Acorns and Enchanted Fear Acorns deep inside my brain that were leading me down the wrong path, pushing me to do things I didn't want to do, and ultimately leading me to burnout!
While I've had to learn all sort of skills to build my business, I now understand that those skills only work when you dig up and dispose of all the toxic acorns like an EPA Superfund Site.
So here’s my takeaway for you this week: Maybe it’s time to break your acorn.
Whatever you’ve buried deep in the ground—the thing you thought you should chase, the thing that’s left you feeling stuck—it’s okay to dig it up, crack it open, and see what’s inside. Because sometimes, breaking it apart is how you find the magic.
So, my fellow business witches, what acorn are you ready to crack? 🌰✨
Nuts about our chats,
Ophelia 🌈
